The quality of seed is a key focus for every seed company and depends on many factors. This course provides the scientific background to understand various biological processes in seed production, seed treatment, storage, and germination. The latest developments in research and seed treatment are also presented.

Intended for: Middle management of seed companies, plant nurseries, and related institutions working in the field of seed technology, seed research, seed production, and qualitycontrol. Breeders dealing with (difficult) seed germination.

Objective: Theoretical training in seed physiology and technology through lectures and demonstrations. Becoming familiar with the latest results of seed technology research.

Program:

  • Seed physiology: germination, seed formation, ripening, dormancy, storage, and pre-treatment;
  • Seed physiology practicum;
  • Relationship between (seed) cultivation and quality;
  • Seed technology research: seed quality, vigor, germination properties;
  • Phytopathological research on seeds;
  • Quality inspection;
  • Advanced sorting techniques;
  • Drying;
  • Seed technology treatments;
  • Own problems are tested against theory;
  • Syllabi of the treated material are provided.
